Ganesh immersion festival, a grand success in Rajahmundry

Om Shree Ganeshaya Namaha.... Ganesh immersion festival conducted on sunday,23rd sept was a grand success as citizens of rajahmundry thronged the godavari bund. A total of 250 idols were immersed in the river. The processions continued till midnight.


Yet again, the culture city displayed it's festive spirit and gears up for the dussera celebrations.

Traffic curbs for Ganesh idol's immersion in Rajahmundry

The city police has announced traffic curbs across various places in rajahamundry to facilitate smooth processions and immersions of the lord ganesh's idols. It is to be noted that no vehicles would be allowed between syamala center and gokavaram bus stand, except the ones carrying idols.

Heavy rains stall life in Rajahmundry

Heavy downpour over the past 2-3 days brought life in Rajahmundry to a complete halt. The low lying areas like aryapuram, many city roads are under water causing problems to residents and commuters. Thousands of acres of farm land are under water as well. More rains are expected in the next 48 hours. Total losses in terms of property are estimated to be 5 Crore rupees.

Krishnastami celebrated with pomp and gaiety

Krishnastami was celebrated with pomp and gaiety across East godavari and Rajahmundry. "Utti utsavam" was organized at both ISKCON and venu gopala swamy temple. At ISKCON,Lord Krishna was decorated on Sun God with seven horses. The week long celebrations at ISCKON temple concluded today.

Works for east Rajahmundry railway station nearing completion

Construction of new east side terminal building of Rajahmundry railway station is nearing completion while escalator, ATMs and lounges are being installed. The advantages include easier and faster access to the city railway station and reduction of traffic congestion on the Rajahmundry-Dowleswaram road.

Also, works worth 50 lakh rupees for the development of 1st platform are also nearing completion. The new facilities include installation of touch screens for railway information, ATMs of banks like SBI & Canera bank. Works for a four-lane road connecting east side of railway station and national highway(NH5) are likely to begin soon.

Petroleum university(UPES) Rajahmundry campus officially inaugarated

Catering to the needs of ever expanding oil and natural gas industry in the country, the UPES Rajahmundry campus was officially inaugurated. It shares campus with the existing godavari engineering college. The university offers various degree programmes such as MBA (upstream asset management), MBA (Port & Shipping) , integrated B.Tech & MBA, BBA (Petro marketing) and B.Sc (Geo-science).

Old bridge at Rajahmundry to be tourist spot and national monument

PUSHKARA irrigation scheme to benifit 63000 acres

Pushkara lift irrigation scheme, a benevolent scheme for the farmers of East Godavari would benefit over 63000 acres of farm land. Officials have inspected the construction work near purushothapatnam village of Rajahmundry and conducted a trial run.

Foundation stone to be laid in September for Nannaya university campus construction

The foundation stone for the much-awaited construction of nannaya university campus would be laid in the month of september instead of earlier planned date(Aug.22nd). With 36 teaching and nine Academic consultants, 30 guest lecturers, six course coordinators and nine members of non-teaching staff, the classes for the third semester of first batch and first semester of second batch began in June. The university has invested Rs.5 lakhs on Computer Lab and also arranged full-fledged Library at a cost of Rs.5 lakhs in its make-shift campus.

Also, foundation stone for the Rajahmundry campus of National Academy for construction would also be laid on the same day in Devan cheruvu. The proposed would require an investment of 11 crore rupees. This institute provides training and technical know how for construction projects.

Works on 3 new Rajahmundry projects to begin soon

Works on 1)Four -lane bridge across godavari 2)Flyover connecting kotipalle bus stand center and NH5 are likely to begin soon. The advantages of the first project would be easing traffic flow on existing road cum rail bridge and cotton barrage while the second one helps in de-congestion of busy roads such as stadium road. This entire package is estimated to cost Rs.550 crores. This package also includes a four-lane road connecting exit point of new-proposed bridge and NH5 at Divan cheruvu, via kateru & konthamuru.

The Rail over bridge at ILTD junction is estimated to cost Rs.18 crores.

Godavari Rising,steadily

Its that time in the year again. Due to heavy rains in catchment areas & resulting inflows, Godavari is rising steadily while its tributaries Sabari and Indravathi are in spate.

Godavari bund to be developed as Spiritual corridor

All the spiritual centres across godavari bund as well as Gouthama ghat will be getting a face lift. Infrastructure would be developed in and around the gouthama ghat. This would enhance the richness of the city, increase tourist inflow and improve the income for MCR.
Apart from this the city officials have made a proposal to the goverment that if govt. vacant lands are given to MCR, they could as well be converted into recreation parks.

24x7 Water supply to be available in City

The city will soon get 24x7 water supply. The MCR is planning to launch this program in few wards on a trial basis and extend to the remaining wards.

Green Rajahmundry

The city is currently deprived off greenery and it is all set to change for good. The city planning commission and the municipal corporation of Rajahmundry are going to undertake a huge plantation drive to plant 5 lakh plant lings across the city. The finances for this will be incurred in the form of additional taxes. The rest of the plants will be supplied by ONGC, ITC, Smithklime beecham etc.
So hopefully, It will be a Greener & Healthier Rajahmundry, down the line.

Petroleum University (UPES) opens campus at Rajahmundry

Catering to the needs of ever expanding oil and natural gas industry in and around Rajahmundry, the UPES,a central govt. university, opened a campus in the exisiting Godavari Engineering college. It is expected to admit students for various technology as well as management programmes with an emphasis on petroleum industry from this academic year.

Rajahmundry-Bhadrachalam Strech of Godavari to be NW

A total of 170 kms on the Rajahmundry-Bhadrachalam strech of Godavari would be upgraded as National waterway(NW4) and the proposed works are scheduled to be completed by 2011-12. A bill has been passed in parliament recently. The proposed NW4 will also include 1,095-km Kakinada-Puducherry route linking two major rivers — the Godavari and the Krishna — and several canals — Kakinada Canal, Eluru Canal, Commamur Canal, Buckingham Canal and Kaluvely tank. The Rajahmundry-Bhadrachalam strech is of prime importance in terms of employment generation, cheaper and less polluted freight transportation.

Isckon-Rajahmundry committed to society

The Rajahmundry ISKCON temple is showing keen interest in taking over the mid-day meal scheme which is currently under government control. The advantages would be better execution, wider reach etc. ISCKON has solid track record of executing a similar program in other states. It's heartening that ISCKON is committed so much for the well being of the society.

Railway reservation facility at Head post office and Danavaipeta PO

Waiting in long lines for reserving railway tickets at Godavari station or Main station? Here is some good news. The postal department identified Head Post Office, Danavaipeta Post Office in Rajahmundry city along with the post offices at Mandapeta and Ramachandrapuram of Rajahmundry Postal Division to facilitate reservation system for railway tickets.

As the PO's are computerised they are being connected to the existing railway reservation network.

Breaking yet another record????????

On May 17th, the temparature recorded was 49.5c.....

100 Crore plus Rs. for Rajahmundry airport expansion

A total for 100-110 crore Rs. would be invested for the expansion of Rajahmundry airport.

Airport's runway length is also being increased to 7500 feet. By next year night landing facilities will start. The terminal building is being renovated at a cost of Rs 18 crores to handle about 200 passengers at a time(The current capacity is just close to 50). In addition to providing night landing facilities, the high frequency doppler system is being installed at a cost of Rs 2 crores. An MOU for this has been signed by the AAI and GoAP(govt. of AP) in February.

Four laning of Rajahmundry-Korukonda-Bhadrachalam state highway

Plans are afoot to convert exising 2 lane state highway(i.e korukonda road) into a 4 lane highway. A survey is underway for land aquisition. This would help faster access to Madhurapudi airport and important temple towns like Bhadrachalam while easing out traffic congestion on the busiest korukonda road. Also, all the villages would be greatly benifited due to enhanced connectivity to "Hub Rajahmundry".
